Hey True Believers!

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted a new look and I apologize for making you all wait! My life has been crazy busy since costuming season started (which some of you know, is something else I do). I’ve been super busy making new costumes for the renaissance faire as well as the masquerade balls coming up this summer! (Myth Masque and Labyrinth of Jareth). All of that combined with a full-time job has left very little time for me to update my blog, film tutorials, and do makeup on myself. WonderCon is also this weekend and I hope I run into some of you guys there!! I’ll be there the entire weekend so if you see me please say hello!

With all that said, I present to you Miss Sinister! Miss Sinister, or Claudine Renko, is a female clone of Mr. Sinister, the infamous X-Men villain. She’s just as crafty as her male counterpart, but has more sex appeal. She’s a fairly new character in the X-Men universe, and her fate is currently unknown, but I do hope they keep her around as I think it’d be interesting to see her and a fully resurrected Mr. Sinister go at each others throats. . Her abilities are telepathy and a healing factor. She’s basically Mr. Sinister without his memories.

For the shape of the eye makeup, I incorporated a stylized “S” in using the crease. I also used the traditional colors for Miss Sinister/Mr. Sinister which are the red, black, and white. I also got a chance to use some of the new Sugarpill Eyeshadows from the Cold Chemistry collection I picked up at IMATS LA this past January. (I have an IMATS LA haul video filmed, and not edited, so that will be up at some point where I talk about some of the things I purchased.) And again, I’ve collaborated with my amazing artist friend Sara Richard who took my makeup design and illustrated it on a portrait of Miss Sinister which you can see below!

I do have a tutorial for this look, but alas, I’ve had no time to edit it so it will be up on my YouTube channel sometime in April I hope! (Basically I’ll be quite busy until after July! So I’ll do what I can!)

Lip Gloss: Manic Panic Collection High Voltage Gloss in Radioactive.* (Mini Review: This is the coolest packaging for a gloss I have ever seen! When you pull unscrew the cap and pull out the wand, there’s a light under it that comes on! You can use it to apply your gloss in a dark car or in a club using the mirror on the side of the gloss tube! This gloss is a gorgeous metallic red that is blue based and the smell is kind of like a plastic smell, so it doesn’t have a candy or sugary smell to it. It’s not a super sticky gloss and is opaque. I’d use it again, but I wish it smelled more appealing. I think I actually have video of this on the tutorial that is going up later for this look.)

Hey True Belivers!

Today’s look is a special one! I’ve teamed up with one of my dear friends, and supremely talented artist, Sara Richard again to bring you another collaboration! This time, we’re doing some X-Men villainesses! To start this awesome collaboration off, I picked the lovely, unfortunate, and enraged Madelyne Pryor aka the Goblin Queen from the now classic Inferno storyline!

Madelyne was the wife of Scott Summers aka Cyclops and the biological mother of Cable. She was also cloned from Jean Grey by Mr. Sinister (which is something NO one knew when she met and married Cyclops, but common…everyone noticed how much she looked like Jean and NO ONE suspected it?? common people!! LOL), and was an all around nice girl, up until Jean came back from “the dead” (I use that term loosely lol) and Cyclops left Madelyne and their newborn to be with his now back from the dead ex girlfriend….AWKWARD! Basically, Madelyne couldn’t handle it, and decided to shack up with a bunch of demons and went mental. She also tried to sacrifice her own kid…wow! (to sum things up!)

I based this eye makeup and lips off of her sexy black costume (can you say supreme under boob?! jeez…I don’t even know how she didn’t fall out….double sided tape? lol) and pulled the red from her hair and also the demonic energy she was weilding. And like our previous collaborations, Sara took the makeup I designed and wore, and placed it on an illustration of the character wearing it.

I had filmed a tutorial for this, but I lost ALL of the footage of me doing the makeup and only managed to not lose the intro and outro. D’Oh!

Lipstick: Lime Crime Velvetines in Red Velvet* lined with black eyeliner and faced inward. Mini Review: Red Velvet Velvetine is great! It sets matte, isn’t drying, and you can touch it without it transferring. It’s also a very beautiful shade of true , deep red. I haven’t owned a budge proof lip product in a very long time, so this is really nice to be able to use. I would still maybe prep your lips first just in case your lips are already dry. Exfoliate them first, because like most matte products, it will enhance any dry and flakey/rough spots.

Hey True Believers!

Today’s look is inspired by that badass alien villainess, Deathbird!

Deathbird is known as being one of the X-Men’s many enemies and was also known for constantly trying to take the Shi’ar throne from her sister Lilandra, who was the Empress/Majestrix (to see the look I did based on her, click here). She finally became Empress after marrying Cyclops’ and Havok’s insane long lost brother, Vulcan. She’s also more birdlike in having talons, which is a trait looked down upon by her people (she’s from an avian race, but talons are a symbol of inferiority of evolvement)

Needless to say, she’s a bit unstable! But she has a very cool design and she’s a fierce fighter. I took her trademark eye markings and recreated them using the eyeliner and simplified them a bit, as different artists tend to draw them differently, and also borrowed colors from her armor and cape. The brows have hints of metallic purple like her armor as well. The lipstick I chose also is a reflection of the dark pinks she wears in her headdress and feathered cape.

Hey True Believers!

Today I bring you something a little different from what I normally do. I know I’ve only ever done one other celebrity inspired look before (I went as Nicki Minaj to a holiday party a year ago. You can see that here.) but here’s another recreation for you! I saw the above image of Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Scarlett Johansson, and Keira Knight from the W Magazine 4 Decades of Fashion shoot and LOVED it so much, I asked some of my gal pals if they’d like to recreate it! Everyone was really into the photos as well and this collaboration was born! Very rarely do I get super excited about celebrity makeup enough to do something on my blog regarding it, so I was glad I was able to do this collaboration with 3 ladies I’ve looked up to in the makeup vlogging arena since before I started my blog.

I hope you’re having a happy new year! It looks like my first post of this year will be a makeup review (I’m a little behind on these, I really apologize! They just take the most time which is something I’ve had little of!) The  folks at Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC for short) were very kind to send me some products of theirs to review and test out. At the time I received the products, I didn’t own any OCC products. Well needless to say, I have a TON of lip tars now as they are one of my favorite lip products to use on not only myself, but my clients. They keep things sterile due to you having to squeeze it out and a little (and I mean a LITTLE) goes a LONG way! Anyway, on to the review!

Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Oil, Mentha X Peprita (Peppermint) Oil, Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Stearalkonium Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate | May Contain: Silica Dimethyl Silylate, D&C Red #6, D&C Red #7, D&C Red #27, D&C Red #30, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Yellow #5, FD&C Yellow #6, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Mica

Precautions: Due to peppermint oil content, Lip Tar is not recommended for use in the immediate eye area.

I absolutely love the tube that they come in as it’s very easy to control how much product is dispensed. They’re also very minty on the lips, which feels really nice, but they don’t taste of mint. As they say, a TINY big goes a very long way. With a small dot, I am able to cover my entire mouth and have an even coverage. If you use too much, it will “pool” in the corners of your lips and it will also bleed below your lip line. It dries down satin, so if you want a more glossy look, you must use their clear Lip Tar over it (it also works well as a primer under the colored lip tar). Using a clear gloss that is oil based will destroy the lip tar application, so I really do recommend you use the clear lip tar as a gloss if you desire a glossy finish. The ability to create your own custom colors out of them is a makeup artist’s dream! This is especially handy when you can’t find a lipstick in a color you need (I’m looking at you Cosplayers! Put these in your arsenal!)

All of the below lip swatches were applied on my bare lips without a primer.

Just use a tiny drop for full coverage all over your lips and apply with a lip brush! These are VERY pigmented.

OCC Lip Tar in Feathered

OCC’s Description: TRUE WHITE, LIGHTENS

My Thoughts: Feathered was definitely meant to be mixed with other colors to lighten them. Not to say you can’t wear it alone, but it was a bit more sheer than lip tars usually are. If you have more pigmented lips, then you might want to skip on wearing this as a stand alone.  Lip Tars are not drying at all and your lips remain soft and flexible while wearing them. They also last for hours on your lips without having to re-apply. I typically get around 6-8 hours of wear with a lip tar and this is including eating and drinking.

OCC Lip Tar in Traffic

OCC’s Description: TRUE PRIMARY YELLOW

My Thoughts: Traffic was also on the sheer side, and I had to work to get an even finish all over without having to over apply the product. It is a gorgeous bright yellow, and would definitely stand out more on someone with less lip pigmentation. Lip Tars are not drying at all and your lips remain soft and flexible while wearing them. They also last for hours on your lips without having to re-apply. I typically get around 6-8 hours of wear with a lip tar and this is including eating and drinking.

OCC Lip Tar in RX

OCC’s Description: PRIMARY CYAN BLUE

My Thoughts: RX was opaque and had even coverage. This formula was more akin to the other lip tars I own and had even coverage. It’s a bright, beautiful, true blue. I should have photographed it under my new lights to really show off how bright and true this blue was. BEWARE that this lip tar WILL stain your lips blue! I had a time trying to get this off, and knew it would probably stain due to how pigmented the blue was. The lighter colors didn’t stain. Lip Tars are not drying at all and your lips remain soft and flexible while wearing them. They also last for hours on your lips without having to re-apply. I typically get around 6-8 hours of wear with a lip tar and this is including eating and drinking.

Here is a custom lip tar I created using a drop and a third of Traffic mixed into a drop of RX. I got the most gorgeous Kelly Green color!

This concealer is AMAZING! Like their lip tars, a little of this goes a long way and has excellent coverage!  I’ve seen people use it as a foundation as well. I really like the fact that they have a range for those with yellow/olive undertones and those with red undertones. I use the shade Y2 (although I could probably get away with using Y4 as well) as I have olive undertones and it’s very close to my skin tone but still lighter (which is great for brightening up the eye area). For those with dry skin, I might not use this as it will enhance the dry patches. This would be good on people who have normal or oily skin. It does need to be warmed up with your finger before you apply. After you’ve warmed it up a bit, use a concealer brush to blend it out.

As you can see, Y2 has been loved by me, a lot. lol

Here is a before and after of my face without the OCC Skin Conceal and my face using it as a foundation on one half. Yes, I don’t have wonderful skin (been fighting moderate-severe acne since I was 12), but I’m actually into week 2 of using Paula’s Choice skin care products to help with my acne and battle damaged skin. We’re also having severe (for Southern California) winter weather and my skin is dry from it. I will do a review on that in February after I’ve given the product more time to work. So far, so good though!

My Thoughts: I first learned about Mixing Medium from Amy when she was posting her EOTD with eyeliners created using her loose eyeshadows. I knew I needed to get some of this so I can have more ways to do cool things with her products (and other loose shadows!) This is my go to for making custom eyeliners!

My Thoughts: This brush is SUPER soft. It feels really nice against your skin. But it’s a bit TOO soft for me to use it for concealer application which I usually only do under my eyes and on acne blemishes. I did use it to apply the OCC concealer in the photo above as a foundation, but I had to warm up the product first before I used this brush to blend it out. The brush is far too soft to pick up the concealer on it without warming the concealer up first. It did a good job of blending out the concealer though when I applied it as a foundation. If I plan on wearing the concealer as a foundation again, I will probably use this brush. Otherwise, I will probably go for a different brush for spot application.
